Okay I have taken it upon myself to start a Royce vs Matt thread to keep it out of other threads.
:PAlright. I actually have a huge amount of faith in Royce for this one. Matt Hughes- I notice one thing about him. He is lucky as hell for him to get out a rear naked choke/Be Able to slam someone and somehow magically knock them out?
Let's think about Matt Hughes' stand up game compared to what he normally uses. What's Hughes' trademark? His slams right? What good is that against a gracie. Matt stated he would stand with Royce. Matt Hughes has a 38w 4 loss record and only about 12 of his victories have been by striking. Royce has definately gained weight/muscle since last time I saw him. And truly I am worried for his health but obviously he has something to give if hes fighting MATT FRICKEN' HUGHES. If I was Royce I would say "No. Let me fight a Ultimate Fighter kid so his track record could say he got owned by me. Lucky kid" this is crazy. Royce has fought immensely hard people such as Kazushi Sakuraba and he survived. He'll survive Matt Hughes.
Oh and Frank Shamrock will be fighting Cesar Gracie in San Jose, California ( for you californians amd for me)

Did anyone see Royce's last fight? Didn't he draw with some hella skinny dude?
Matt is Freakishly strong and has good sub defense. Royce doesn't like getting hit in the face either and if he is going to pull guard he is going to get a boat load of elbows in his face.
I'm still rooting for Royce just cause I don't like Hughes but I really don't think Royce has much of a chance.

In matt's corner: since bj penn, matt has become more a fighter than a wrestler so I think he will also beat penn now, in fact I dont think it will be any type of grapler that will dethrone him, since trigg he has been sharper and tougher and more controlling.
In royce's corner: invented BJJ and won 3 UFC's in which he was outsised and outmuscled and looked like a schoolboy, untill the bell rang! Enough of that.
I think nowadays fighters all know some sort of bjj and dont freese up if someone tries to choke them. Hughes will definitely will, he will pick up mr. Gracie and slam him Trigg style, instantly causing him to need a hip replacement. May be GSP will beat Hughes, but it wont be on the ground

Matt Hughes by anything he wants, royce is just a little too old He was great as a pioneer for the sport but his moves no longer surprise anyone. Not like the days when commentators would say things like "He's on his back, he's in trouble [royce putting in triangle] He has nothing! he has nothing! [other guy taps out but ref doesn't know what tapping means giving royce about 5 more seconds of choking to be done]"
I would say BJ Penn's BJJ is much more effective than Royce Gracies, also because he's younger and more flexible.
