I first saw him in the GSP vs Mayhem, I was already a fan of GSP at the time but watching Mayhem go the distance while smiling was inspirational. I didn't give the guy any credit when I first saw him. Then I met him at best buy when a bunch of the Pride fighters were signing autographs, til this day I still don't know what mayhem was doing there, he clearly wasn't there to get any autographs...maybe there for sheer intimidation factor. Since no one in line was bothering him, I thought it to be my duty to go up to him and ask him for a picture to which he responded with something like "if you buy me this lap top [pointing to lap top] i'm poor" and then went off with something really irrelevant, weird, and funny. Anyways, afterward he took me and my bro to his place where we watched a TV that wasn't working. And for some reason all three of us decided to sit in the same seat.

Ahhhhhhh! This was you, Austin! I remember your pics (Mayhem was probably there with Rampage or Henderson, since they are good friends.) Let's seeeeeee..... My husband and I had watch a whole slew of Pride's and UFCs on DVD, but UFC 52 was the first PPV that we purchased. And guess which fight was shown first?? So, the Mayhem v. GSP was actually the first fight we ever saw Live on PPV. His entrance reminded us of something from Pride and we enjoyed that. His personality, perserverance, and skills against GSP made us huge fans!

Like Webchica it was ufc52 where i was introduced to Mayhem. It was his sheer guts and determination that won me over, that and his sick submission escapes. I still like GSP but ive become a Mayhem fanatic, getting all i can from net, magazines etc

I actually heard of him as Baroni's training partner. Then his funny bootay posts on mma.tv where I was assigned a number then clips on the internet.Somehow I missed that he was fighting GSP until I tuned in my actual words were "NO why are they throwing him to the lions right off the bat, he could beat plenty of other WWs in the UFC."I loved that fight though it completely solidified him as my favorite fighter. Then of course myspace and finally this forum.

That UFC is actually the only one I own, and I'm glad I bought it from Target. I remember the commentators talking about Mayhem in high regards (as they always do) but he was one of the first people to live up to his reputation.

A little before UFC 52, once the fight was announced a friend told me I had to check out this crazy guy GSP was fighting.

Before I started training with my current team . Mayhem fought a team mate of mine named Jay Buck . Since then I have followed him.

Well, I am stationed in Iraq and my job permits A LOT of time on the internet. I was researching a school I want to go to when I get back to Vegas and his link was there. I checked out the link and I read some blogs. What I read was amazing and I wanted to read and learn more. Boy's words are like crack 'cause I'm hooked!

My friend was also stationed in Iraq and got his brown belt in Marine Corps martial arts. That stuff is pretty useful but not all applicable in MMA (throat grabbing and what not).

I started training here because the Army teaches combatives. When I get back to the states, I plan to take it further. My first instructor was awesome. He had one pro mma fight only because he's always deploying. But he taught what he learned-vale tudo, BJJ, Muay Thai.
